Inflatable Madness Blows Up
Sun, wind, rain and pizza!
The day was a ‘breeze’ with winds (gusting up to 32mph) that matched the high spirits of all who attended. Although the rain was torrential at points in the day, it did not dampen the mood of more than 90 of our members and guests. The Club house, front lawn and lake were buzzing.
Inside, the tombola, lolly stick game and raffle provided entertainment and rewards for the lucky winners, who kept coming back for more.
Volunteers in the galley helped to keep everyone’s energy up with tasty treats and snacks.
Outside was a hive of activity. Not only the 65ft inflatable assault course proving a big hit for young and old alike but also the oppies and boards enticing our youngsters (and those young at heart) out onto the water.
Whilst Dave and Tom provided on water entertainment for those kitted up, Mike, our lifeguard for the event, kept a close eye on all involved. The lake was definitely used to its full potential. In addition to the orgainsed games, there were families going out for a brisk sail and, across the lake, our windsurfing members took full advantage of the high winds, going out for a blast on windsurfers and wing foils.
After fun in the sun, wind and rain, the day was rounded off with The Beverley Pizza Company cooking up a storm, hand making 90 delicious pizzas in their pop up wood fired pizzeria.
Our thanks go out to all our members for your help preparing and joining in with such a successful event. It couldn’t have happened without you!

Stu Wins RYA Award
Beaver Sailing Club is delighted to share with all of you that the RYA Awards Panel conferred an Outstanding Contribution Award on Stuart Francis-Burnett for 2023.
Please join us to congratulate Stuart for the award and thank him for all the help he gives to support others to enjoy time on the water. A group of his sailing friends put in a secret nomination for him and it came as a wonderful surprise for him, which actually made him speechless.
The award will be given in November 2023, this year during the RYA AGM and Awards Ceremony in London. We would all love to be a fly on the wall during the award ceremony. We can’t wait for one of his extraordinary write-ups about it.
Well done Stu!!! You deserve it.

Streaker event goes down a treat
Last Saturdays Beaver Sailing Club Streaker Open, the second in the northern paddle series, got off to a very light start. Following an early postponement by race officer Ollie Groves and Grandad Roy due to the light conditions, it was decided to have lunch which was expertly prepared by Team Penty.
The wind eventually decided to show up and a great afternoons racing was had by all much to the relief of the ROD.
As expected the racing was close and place changes were frequent for the 25 competitors with everyone falling foul of various wind direction changes at one point or another.
3 back to back races races were held, and whilst the winner never changed all other places were hard fought.

North East Youth Racing Regatta
Beaver SC welcomes and supports the young sailors taking part in a regatta on 14th April 2018. This event falls under the new banner of North East Youth Racing and is an amalgamation of the North East Youth Travellers and Yorkshire and Humberside Youth Sailing Association.
YHYSA states on their site; This series is intended to encourage young sailors to travel around the region and to get them into a competitive yet friendly racing environment which will include on the water coaching for those who need or want it to help them improve boat speed, handling and of course their results.
The series will once again be run under the wing of the RYA NE Regional Volunteer Team but we welcome help and input from parent volunteers who are prepared to put something back into the sport by helping and encouraging the regions young sailors.
See YHSA site here.
Hopefully the weather will be favourable but sporty enough to provide good challenge and that Beaver’s open water and quality club facilities will make this an event to remember.
